Getting Your Heat Right on Sidel SBO and Matrix Machines
If you’ve spent any time around PET stretch blow molding, you know the struggle. Getting those heat profiles just right is a pain. If your wattage is off or the spectral output isn’t hitting the mark, you’re looking at a bad day. That’s why we built our infrared lamps to fit the whole Sidel lineup. Whether you’re still running the old-school SBO units or you’ve moved up to the Matrix series, these just work. No rewiring the oven. No hacking away at the lamp holders. You just swap them out and get back to work. The electrical side of things Here’s the thing: if the voltage doesn’t match, you’re asking for trouble. You either trip a breaker or you end up with preforms that aren’t heating evenly. It’s frustrating. We make sure our lamps match the OEM voltage and wattage exactly. Whether your setup is high-voltage or standard industrial, the resistance is spot on. We stick to the original dimensions and loads so you don’t have to guess if it’s going to work. It just does. Quartz, connectors, and the “fit” There’s nothing worse than a loose contact. You hear that little arc, and suddenly your socket is burnt out. We use standard R7s and Sk15 connectors because they fit tight. We also use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because these lamps go through a lot of thermal shock during rapid cycling, and cheap glass just won’t hold up. Plus, we add specific coatings to the tubes. This pushes the heat deep into the PET wall instead of just scorching the surface. Installing them (and a quick heads-up) Installation is a breeze. Pull the old tube out, slide the new one in. Done. But a word of advice: if you’re pushing the wattage to the upper limit of your Matrix specs to get faster cycle times, keep an eye on your cooling fans. More heat means your fans have to work harder. If the airflow is sluggish, your lamps won’t last nearly as long. We build these things to take a beating in a 24/7 production environment. Just make sure your cooling system can keep up with the load, and you’re golden.
