
Getting Heat Where It Actually Matters in PET Blowing
If you’re running Sidel SBO 20 Series 1 or Husky HyPET systems, you know the struggle. You’re fighting a clock. In a high-speed line, you only have a few milliseconds to get that preform up to the glass transition temperature. The real headache? Getting the heat into the center of the wall without scorching the outside. When that doesn’t happen, you end up with uneven walls and bottles that burst. It’s frustrating, and it kills your yield. The secret is in the light. We don’t just make “lamps.” We tweak the quartz and the halogen fill to shift how the infrared energy behaves. Instead of just hitting the surface and baking the “skin” of the plastic, the radiation actually punches through to the core. You get a deep, consistent soak rather than a burnt exterior. As for the hardware, we kept it simple. These are drop-in replacements. They fit the same footprint and pull the same electrical load as the OEM parts, so you aren’t rewiring your whole setup. We also use high-grade quartz. Why? Because 24/7 production is brutal. The constant heating and cooling (thermal cycling) can warp cheaper tubes. These won’t. And we didn’t forget the connectors. Whether you’re dealing with R7s or those specialized SK pins, we used oxidation-resistant contact points. Most of those annoying flickers or premature burn-outs happen right at the socket due to voltage drops. We fixed that. A couple of things to keep in mind… These lamps put out a massive amount of heat density. Because of that, you’ve got to keep an eye on your oven’s airflow. If your cooling blowers are clogged or just too weak, all that extra radiant energy can start overheating your chassis or messing with your conveyor belts. One last tip:don’t swap every lamp at once. It sounds counterintuitive, but try a staggered schedule. Mix your brand-new lamps with the ones that still have some life in them. It keeps the thermal profile steady across the heating zone. If you drop a bunch of brand-new, high-power lamps into a zone with old ones, you’ll get “hot spots” that can ruin a batch of preforms.
